Cameron Ratliff
Co-owner of Saxapahaw General Store
Cameron Ratliff grew up in northern Florida and moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for college, where she studied English and anthropology. She taught English in high schools for four years, and in 2008 she decided to practice anthropology on herself by taking over a convenience store and grill with her partner, Jeff Barney. As co-owners of Saxapahaw General Store, Cameron and Jeff have worked to bring local foods and sustainable business practices to their community. In the process, Cameron has entered the worlds of the petroleum industry, the restaurant business, and the local foods movement. She’s also learned a bit about accounting, catering, and the art of baking biscuits. In 2010, Cameron and Jeff partnered with a couple whose vision it was to open The Eddy Pub in Saxapahaw; Cameron is now counter of beans and organizer of special suppers for the pub. She is also now mom to Ella Julia, age one, and the reason for this succinct biography.
